Searching Ancestors

Customers learn about their ancestors’ stories by piecing together all findable historical documents for them. Ancestry has over 20 billion records, a user only had access to 65% of that, we needed to give users access to ALL of it.

Conclusion

We doubled the number of search success users were making, which led to a 7% increase of new ancestors added to users’ family trees, and a 3% higher retention.

Added a new Search tab to bring the functionality more front and center.
Search Filters: Added granular control over the search results and collections being searched. Also showing number of results so user could adjust the filter and see immedietly feedback on number of results left.
Search Results: Clean UI focusing the user on the results. Clearly shown info on who is being search, number of results and access to filtering.
